10. My school plans to have an internal competition in which students will perform various dramas based on short novels written by local writers. Can my school do so without obtaining permission from the copyright owners?

Yes, so long as the performances at your school are by the teachers and students of your school and are before an audience consisting of teachers and students and other persons directly connected with the activities of your school (including parents and guardians of the students) (see section 43 of the Copyright Ordinance ).
